Kiro CLI: Switch to 3.0 from Classic, Category-Based Hook Matching, and Steadier V3 Sessions

Kiro CLI 2.28.0 offers Classic users a path to switch to 3.0 without leaving their terminal, lets V3 Hooks match tool categories, and makes long V3 chats more reliable.

[Switch to 3.0 from an interactive Classic session] When you start an interactive Classic session on a host that can run 3.0, Kiro now offers to switch: choose Switch to 3.0 and upgrade my agent configs to save 3.0 as your default, upgrade your agent configurations, and rerun your command in 3.0. Decline, and Kiro reminds you again about once a week.

[Match Hooks by tool category in V3] In V3 sessions, Hooks that run before or after a tool can now match by category, such as shell, read, write, or a specific MCP server or tool, instead of only by internal tool ID.

[Improvements] Mid-turn model and effort changes: `/model` and `/effort` now open their pickers while Kiro is working. Your choice applies after the current turn ends

[Improvements] Longer V3 sessions: V3 releases finished turns instead of keeping them in memory. This reduces buildup in very long chats

[Improvements] Consistent V3 workflow delegation: The Workflows: sub-agent tool row is removed from `/settings` > Features, and its stored setting no longer changes behavior. With Workflows enabled, V3 chat always uses workflows for delegation. Parallel sub-agents sharing a role now get separate rows, so you can inspect and approve each one independently

[Improvements] Clearer V3 interrupted-tool status: When a V3 turn ends with a tool call unanswered, Kiro reports its status more precisely. It says whether the tool never started, finished, or has an unknown outcome

[Improvements] New Full Screen display setting: `/settings` > Display > Full Screen adds Copy on select. Turn it off to stop fullscreen mode from capturing text selection, so a terminal or tmux that already handles copying can do it instead

[Improvements] V2 MCP server arguments on Windows: In V2 sessions on Windows, arguments containing `|`, `&`, `%`, or spaces now reach directly resolved stdio MCP servers unchanged

[Improvements] Expanded activity tray: The expanded activity tray lists every task instead of stopping at six; in fullscreen the list is capped at about half the screen. The Lite tray shows up to six workflows instead of three

[Fixes] Fixed V2 TUI conversations that stopped responding after a sub-agent finished

[Fixes] Fixed misplaced chat views after leaving the agent monitor or session dashboard on some terminals
